About

Backyard Docs is a project promoting the documentary arts in Pittsburgh. We think documentary film and photography should be more accessible to everyone, not just academics and documentarians. We screen and exhibit documentary films and photography in unique places outside of big theaters and stuffy galleries, bringing documentary exhibitions and screenings directly to communities in our region.

This project started as a group of friends showing each other’s work in living rooms and backyards with help from The Video Consortium and Doc Salon. Screening and exhibition attendance quickly grew as we realized a demand for showing documentary work. We are now growing this and plan to formally launch Backyard Docs in the Fall of 2024.
